Apply library and information science theories, principles, and research to professional practice.
For LIS 748 we created a core collection for an area of our choosing. I decided to collect a selection of core titles to support a new Learning Disability Specialist Curriculum for a University School of Psychology. This included a selection criteria, collection goals, a list of materials to purchase, and an overall spending budget. During this course, I had yet to be in a position where I purchased materials in a library. Currently, I am in a position where I purchase materials for our Adult Services collection in my library! And I must say, this assignment truly helped give me a launching pad of best practices for this professional practice that I now do regularly. Funnily enough, my selection area includes the 100s (Psychology amongst others) which go hand in hand with this assignment! Through this project, I was able to apply library and information science principles, theories, research, and best practices to a duty that I now preform in my everyday career.
