Hello! My name is Kyra Zirlin and I am a graduating MLIS student at Dominican University. I started my journey with libraries as some children do–I got grounded. Brought to the expansive shelves of my childhood library by an exasperated mother with a bored child, that is where my love affair began. After earning a Bachelors in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse from DePaul University, I went on to become a grant writer for a short period of time. It was however, as most first things are, not the right path for me. An essential pivot was preformed, and I entered into Dominican Universities MLIS program assuredly excited about the future–and I was right! My first library job had me assisting adult program librarians in a public library, and it was fantastic. From there, I moved into a surprising position at a new public library, as I found myself being the first teen librarian in a space that truly needed one. Outside of the library world, I live in a heavily forested suburb with deer and frogs, whom make lovely neighbors. I have a pet snake, three cats, and one sister. My favorite food is watermelon, and I only recently began to develop a taste for chicken. My favorite smell is a tie between petrichor and warm carpet, and I like the color pink. Enough about me! Enjoy your tour through my many projects 🙂
