Goal Five: Advocacy

Outcome 5c

Demonstrate leadership principles in an educational, professional, or community context.

Presentation skills are key to good leadership, especially in an information-centered career. Being able to teach coworkers about an important topic so that they can, in turn, go on to preform at their highest abilities is a corner-stone of leadership. While summer reading may seem like second nature to many seasoned library professionals, it may be brand-new to some fresh faces! For a roundtable presentation in LIS 725, I gave my classmates a run-down on summer reading. This included what summer reading is, why it is important, and some examples of great summer reading programs. Presenting on such a key topic that will in turn help classmates who are not familiar with summer reading, have a solid background to help them in their careers, is a great demonstration of leadership principles in an educational setting. Please note that this presentation did not call for a set of slides, instead it was a lecture discussion.
