Goal Two: The Essential Nature of Information

Outcome 2a

Describe various definitions and concepts of information.

Information can be many things to many different people. It may be visual, audible, quantitative, or qualitative, but there is a type of information that many libraries utilize that is a lesser known boon–ACRL bench-marking. Although it is a tool used by academic libraries, it is a great example of the various avenues and concepts of information that a professional must have in their tool-belt. For LIS 708 we were tasked with comparing data between various bachelor groups in order to understand where our “school” stood in comparison. This assignment taught me the value of quantitative data when working on collection development. This is yet another example of the essential nature of information, and the various types and concepts that it offers. Please see attached my completed assignment for LIS 708, a hypothetical collection of data pulled for “Adlai College”.
