Goal One: Philosophy

Outcome 1b

Demonstrate how a philosophy, theory, model, and/or major perspective of the library and information profession guides practice in diverse settings.

How to have a sustainable library is not talked about a whole lot once you enter the public library world. In fact, the first library I ever worked at did not recycle! I was absolutely horrified, to say the least. Creating “green” libraries, or libraries in which are sustainable on all levels, is a major perspective that guides many other libraries throughout the U.S and around the world. Its guardrails guide practices in libraries stretching from Kenya to Serbia, China, to the Philippines. For LIS 748, I wrote a presentation and handout on a hot topic of my choosing. I choose sustainable libraries, of course! My handout explores libraries from around the world, each serving their own unique, diverse populations. My presentation offers a succinct overview of the green library process. Overall, I believe this assignment offers a solid look into how a model and major perspective of the library and information profession guides practice, all over the world.
