Goal 1: Develop a professional identity and philosophy within the library and information professions.
An article of proof that truly shaped my philosophy was a presentation that I did for LIS 722. In this presentation, my partner and I collected data from various authoritative sources about teens in the U.S. From library use to food insecurity, homelessness, technology use, and even literacy rates–the numbers that I saw helped me decide that I wish to act as an advocate, or a safe place, for these vulnerable souls in our communities. Far too many children fall through the cracks, and if coming to hang out with me and other kids after school while we watch anime, paint pumpkins, draw Pokemon cards, or enjoy a solid horror movie, helps them feel safe and have consistency–then I am more than happy to help provide that.
