For LIS 709 we explored AI as an emerging tool for librarians to use. Specifically, I utilized ChatGPT to write a lesson plan on digital citizenship, for high schoolers in a public library setting. As a teen librarian, I wanted to use this assignment to explore AI in an applicable fashion for my career. After prompting ChatGPT, we were to explore its answer in a blog post on blog’s we created for the course! Through this assignment, I learned how to evaluate one AI platform as a tool for information dissemination and curation via a public library program. The outcome was lukewarm–I appreciated the ideas it offered me, but it was unable to take into account various aspects of public library programming. Overall, the initial product would have been unacceptable to offer patrons. The assignment in whole helped me learn how to work with a rapidly growing tool being used across the population.
