Goal Five: Advocacy

Goal 5: Effectively communicate and collaborate to deliver, market, and advocate for library and
information services.

Earning grants is a fantastic way to advocate for your library and its services. It is telling people that your programs, lessons, spaces, and people are essential to helping your community. So essential, in fact, that you–a most likely large corporation or large private fund–should give us money for it, with no expectation of payback! Moreover, grant proposals need effective communication, you need to market yourselves, and it is essential to share how you wish to collaborate with the grantee to help make your library shine. In LIS 725, we were tasked with writing a grant proposal for a project of our choosing. I chose to try and secure funding for the expansion of an CD audiobook collection in a middle school. This grant proposal is a great combination of communication, marketing, and proposed collaboration to preform a vital type of advocacy.
